State Road 20 FDOT District 3
Florida Department of Transportation officials from the District 3 office did their homework, gathering information on the Spin Cast Method and carefully studying the positive attributes of Cast-In-Place High Strength Cement Culvert Lining. The State Road 20 culvert project was a single line item grouped among several roadway improvements, starting with grinding and resurfacing of the asphalt pavement along this corridor in Leon County, west of Tallahassee, Florida. This culvert project carried exclusive specifications in the Bid Letting Advertisement for the Spin Cast Cement Procedure. The culvert was 71” x 103” CMP bituminous-coated multi-plate. JW & Associates USA applied two inches of our Micro-Silica Structural mortar with the Spin Cast method over the initial spray-on applied (Shotcrete) material, hand trowelled to fill the corrugation.
The culvert provided continuing flow for a creek carrying storm water run-off to the north beneath State Road 20 to a lake, located a little over one mile from the job site. The pictures to the right show a construction transition from a compromised steel culvert to what resembles a cement tunnel. The successful results has led to additional Spin Cast Cement lining, also within FDOT District 3 and located further west in Florida’s panhandle with 86′ linear feet of 36″ RCP and over 130′ linear feet 84″ diameter CMP.
